An off-duty firefighter with the Los Angeles Fire Department was killed in a car accident, the department confirmed Friday.
The LAFD said the unidentified employee was killed during the early morning hours of Friday. Officials did not say when the accident happened.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating the incident while the LAFD tried to contact the firefighter’s family before announcing his or her identity.
“Our thoughts are with the Firefighter’s family, and with every member of this department who is grieving alongside them,” said Fire Chief Jaime Moore.
The Los Angeles Fire Department asked the public to keep the members, family, friends and fellow firefighters in their thoughts during this difficult time.
