American rock band Green Day made a surprise appearance at Petco Park on Friday afternoon as Comic-Con festivities took over the Gaslamp Quarter.
The band’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, was seen at Gallagher Square playing the band’s song “Basket Case”. Armstrong also threw ice cream and T-shirts to an excited crowd from atop an ice cream truck emblazoned with the name of the upcoming comedy “Nimrods”.
The surprise show came ahead of the release of the film based on the band’s early days. “Nimrods” is slated to come out Aug. 14 in the U.S. The film is written and directed by Lee Kirk and stars actor Mason Thames.
Actors Thames and Jenna Fischer, who is also in “Nimrods”, were also seen at the stage. Fischer is known for playing Pam Beesly in “The Office”.
Did you recognize actor Johnny Depp in the Gaslamp Quarter during Comic-Con? Depp was spotted walking around dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge ahead of the upcoming film, Ebenezer, coming out this November.
