(KRON) — More than 80 pairs of boots made with python snakeskin were seized from a San Luis Obispo retailer earlier this month, according to authorities. In California, it is illegal to sell products containing python.
A search warrant was served July 5 at Salinas Charreria & Western Wear. The San Luis Obispo Police Department said detectives confiscated 85 pairs of boots made with the prohibited animal hide. Each pair of boots was valued between $400 and $600.

“The boots were later turned over to Department of Fish and Wildlife investigators who are continuing the investigation at this location and another in Santa Barbara County,” SLOPD wrote.
Python is among more than a dozen expressly prohibited animals to possess parts or products of in California with the intent to sell. The list also includes leopard, cheetah, zebra, sea turtle, wolf, sea otter, whale, and elephant, among others.
Salinas Charreria & Western Wear is located at 716 Higuera Street.
