A massive food giveaway is underway at Franklin Field as the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) is giving away food to people enrolled in the CalFresh recipients as federal government shutdown continues and cuts into support for needy families.
The giveaway was supposed to start at 9 a.m. but a 10 a.m. CAPK personnel, assisted by U.S. Army soldiers were still unloading three large trucks carry pallets of fruit, vegetable sand canned goods
They were also setting up for the long line of cars.
By 10 a.m. the line of cars stretched around the large parking lot at the football complex and east on Bob Hampton Road to Airport Road.
The food giveaway is supposed to last until 7 p.m.
