Lucasfilm’s trio of publishing panels at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con predictably kept its focus on Star Wars… But also featured a brief diversion into Indiana Jones.
The official Star Wars website accounted for most of the new books and comics in their recap of the panel, which was hosted by Jar Jar Binks and Kelleren Beq actor Ahmed Best, moderated by the official website’s EIC Kristin Baver, featured the writers Anthony Breznican, Ashley Poston, and Kiersten White, and was rounded out by Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain. (Additional reporting from Mynock Manor and Laughing Place add a few details that the official recap omitted and info from the subsequent comics and Random House Worlds panels, which covered several MadCave/Papercutz comics and the third Reign of the Empire novel.) Here’s a breakdown of what was announced or further detailed:
The biggest announcement at the San Diego Comic Con panel was a new story about the Skywalker Twins. Set shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker seeks to train his sister Leia Organa Solo in the ways of the Force as his first Padawan, but both have complicated, conflicting ideas about both of their parents and what the Jedi Order means for a galaxy still recovering from decades of the Empire’s reign. Jedi training is interrupted when both Skywalkers are tasked with infiltrating Coruscant, which is still deeply controlled by what’s left of the Empire, as they must head into the Imperial Palace (formerly the Jedi Temple). Beth Revis, who previously wrote the young adult novel Rebel Rising and the novel The Princess and the Scoundrel, returns as author. Until now, the official novelizations of the first three Star Wars movies have only been available in print or as abridged audiobooks on cassette tapes. That’s being fixed now, as the novelizations of A New Hope from George Lucas (and Alan Dean Foster), The Empire Strikes Back from Donald F. Glut, and Return of the Jedi by James Kahn are finally receiving a narrated treatment from Marc Thompson on February 2, 2027.
Pablo Hidalgo and Anthony Breznican team up with DK Books to chronicle 50 years of the galaxy far, far away in this new nonfiction book. Star Wars: A Celebration features an abundance of visual media, concept art, photography, and interviews with key figures involved with the franchise as the book delves into the history of the franchise, its abundance of merchandise, and spin-off media as every corner of this fictional universe is chronicled.
Breznican also revealed additional details on his Insight Editions book Star Wars Icons: Vader, which delves into the in-universe history and real-life inspirations behind the most iconic character of the Star Wars franchise. So many Star Wars comics, so little time. Here’s a brief rundown of all the titles that were announced or discussed at San Diego Comic-Con:
Mad Cave Studios is set to release A New Hope – Triple Take in February 2027 under their Papercutz Publishing label. The reimagining of the original film, depicting the perspectives of the three lead characters, will be written by Kim Shearer and Chas! Pangburn and features a cover illustration that is a collaboration between Max Pinelli, Angela Sancono, David Stoll, and Elena Triolo.
Mad Cave/Papercutz is also set to release two kid-oriented Star Wars graphic novels set around the time of the original trilogy with Smugglers & Scoundrels: The Race for Jabba’s Bounty by writer Cavan Scott and artist Christian Colbert, and Tales from the Outer Rim: The Legend of Beggar’s Canyon by writer Greg Pak and artist Brent Schoonover.
After the events of the original trilogy and the release of Danger in the Dark, we get a new Mandalorian story called Nightmare on Nevarro, written by Delilah S. Dawson and illustrated by Alessandro Ranaldi, with cover art by Soo Lee and a variant cover by Nicoletta Baldari.
Much later in the timeline, Mad Cave/Papercutz is also working on X-Wing Academy from Phineas and Ferb writers Scott Peterson and Joshua Pruett. Set during the time before The Force Awakens, the comic follows the adventures of several young aspiring pilots in the New Republic who seek to assist the Resistance against the First Order.
In the realm of non-canon crossovers, a new Phineas and Ferb Star Wars graphic novel was also announced.
Dark Horse continues their work with The High Republic Adventures Pathfinders, following Republic Pathfinders who are investigating the mysterious death of a Jedi Master in a distant corner of the galaxy. George Mann writes and Jake Bartok illustrates the cover.
Also from Dark Horse – new collections for Galactic Tales of Terror by Cavan Scott and Hyperspace Tales: The Bad Batch – Rogue Agents from author Michael Moreci and illustrator Reese Hannigan were briefly previewed.
Marvel also had a presence at the panel with The Fall of Kylo Ren from Charles Soule and Will Sliney being prominently featured, serving as the third and final chapter of Soule’s Kylo Ren-centric comics. You can read more of our coverage on this story here.
Marvel also showcased several covers and variant covers for their Book of Boba Fett adaptations and Rogue One one-shots, coming out this October. We’ll have more on all of Marvel’s October output soon.

Left out of the official recap, the second book in the Reign of the Empire series, Edge of the Abyss, Rebecca Roanhorse is well into development. Galaxy of Heroes character Fennro Drogan will be featured in the story, with it being revealed that he’s from Ghorman – the character is expected to help delve into that planet’s culture prior to the events of the massacre depicted in Andor. Other characters set to be included in this story include Bail and Leia Organa, Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, Luthen Rael, and Anto Kreegyr. The book will be released on September 15. The third book of the trilogy, From the Ashes, was also set for a release date of August 10, 2027.
Star Wars seeks to expand its horizons for younger viewers as a middle-grade novel, Hiding from the Dark, delves into horror – and a young adult novel Eyes Like Stars tackles romance. But that’s not all, as Best will be participating as an ambassador for Star Wars Reads – an initiative between Lucasfilm Publishing and First Book, to help improve children’s literacy by expanding access to books and educational resources using tales from the galaxy far, far away – starting this October.
Beyond the galaxy far, far away lies a story set in our galaxy with Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium, a five-issue limited series by Jason Aaron and Marvel Comics set directly after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark that will begin publishing in December 2026. Marvel will also republish their older adaptations of the first three movies and expanded universe stories under The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
