More than 30,000 athletes crossed the finish line Sunday as the 49th annual San Francisco Marathon concluded along the Embarcadero.
The two-day event featured a 52.4-mile ultramarathon and a traditional 26.2-mile marathon, alongside half marathon, 10K and 5K races.
Participants ran past iconic city landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, Haight-Ashbury and Oracle Park.
The double-loop ultramarathon began at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Runners completed an overnight 26.2-mile loop before joining the main body of full marathoners at 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
“The energy across San Francisco this weekend was nothing short of remarkable,” race director Lauri Abrahamsen said. “Watching ultra-runners start in the dark on Saturday night and merge with thousands of full and half marathoners as the sun rose over the Bay Bridge is a testament to the grit, unity, and passion of this community. We congratulate every runner who took on the hills and crossed our finish line.”
The race continued its tradition of inclusive athleticism across male, female and nonbinary+ divisions.
Unofficial top finishers in the 26.2-mile full marathon included Garret Patrick of Daly City, California, who led the male division with a time of 2:26:25. Leandra Zimmerman of San Francisco won the female division in 2:45:14, and Tony Solis of Chino, California, topped the nonbinary+ division at 3:20:28.
In the 52.4-mile ultramarathon, Spencer Fluetsch of Merced, California, secured first place in the male division with a time of 10:12:36. Kelly Cockell of Peoria, Arizona, took first in the female division, finishing in 11:22:27.
The San Francisco Marathon was established in 1977. Full race results, division standings and age-group placings are available on the official race website, www.thesfmarathon.com.
