ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A woman whose body was found offshore near San Diego last week has been identified by authorities as a former Anchorage woman.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said the body of Bryn Waite, 26, was seen floating offshore near La Jolla Shores Beach Wednesday morning. Lifeguards brought her to shore and she was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Waite played soccer at Central Washington University as a defender. Her university athletic bio lists her hometown as Anchorage, Alaska, and that she attended Service High School, where she graduated in 2018. The same CWU bio also shows she played Division II soccer in Washington during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Waite also attended Service High School and played for the girls soccer team, according to her MaxPreps’ Service High School profile.

The San Diego medical examiner said the cause of death is pending completion of postmortem examinations.
In a phone interview with our newsroom, Bryn Waite’s father, Brian Waite, described his daughter as caring and community-minded, with a special passion for working with kids with special needs.
He also spoke about her soccer roots in Anchorage and the path that led her to Central Washington University, saying she embraced the opportunity to play in college and was known for her tenacious style of play on defense.
“She was incredibly thoughtful and loving and kind and selfless,” Brian Waite said. “Anyone that got to know her just would instantly call her a true friend and say that she brightened up the room and made him feel welcome and happy to be in her presence.”
He added there’s a Meal Train fundraiser set up for the family called “Meal Train for Waite Family,” through MealTrain.com.
