  • July 28, 2026

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 52-year-old Oakland County man who pleaded no contest in connection with the murder of a father and the assault of his wife and daughter learned his sentence on Friday.

Timothy Ernest Legard pleaded no contest in a case stemming from a September 2024 attack on a neighboring family.

According to authorities, Legard went to his neighbor’s home, stabbed the father to death in the driveway, entered the home as the man’s wife and daughter were getting ready for school, and assaulted them both.

The two escaped the home and called 911 from a neighbor’s house. Police found the father’s body in the driveway, and Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies took Legard into custody.

A GoFundMe was created to help support the family.

Legard was initially charged with first-degree murder, second-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of assault with intent to commit penetration, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

In June, Legard pleaded no contest to the murder, kidnapping and assault charges. The six sexual assault charges were dismissed as part of the plea.

According to court documents, Legard was sentenced on July 24 to natural life without parole.
