A major transformation is underway at Hollywood Burbank Airport: after nearly a century of serving Southern California travelers, it’s preparing to open a brand-new passenger terminal to replace the aging facility.
The renovated terminal named Elevate BUR is set to open on Oct. 13, with the promise of safer and more modern experience for travelers while still keeping the same, same-town charm of the airport.
Since the airport first opened in 1930s, officials said it’s about time for an upgrade to meet current safety standards.
Construction, which began on the $1.3 billion project in 2024, is now about 76 days away from being completed.
Elevate Bur will have two levels and a basement, like the current terminal, but will provide more space with modern amenities around the 14 gates, according to officials. It is also expected to have a variety of options for shopping and dining with upgraded restrooms.
The new terminal is also getting a new ticketing lobby, baggage screening system, an updated TSA checkpoint and a new parking garage with EV charging.

The airport has been fully operational during this construction to minimize the disruption to passengers.
The new terminal will not change the current aircraft operations.
Elevate BUR will have the same number of gates and serve the same size aircraft as the current terminal. That means one of the things some people really love about this will remain: there won’t be any jet bridges, allowing passengers to walk out onto the tarmac to climb the stairs and board your flight.
