Man arrested more than 10 years after deadly shooting, Sacramento sheriff says
More than 10 years after a deadly shooting, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that it arrested a man in connection with the attack.
Ignacio Navarrette, 34, faces a murder charge after a shooting sometime after 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2015, the sheriff’s office said.
Dispatchers initially got a call from someone who heard several gunshots and yelling that somebody had been shot, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies arrived at the 3900 block of 48th Avenue off Franklin Boulevard and found a man, later identified as 22-year-old Octavio Rodriguez, who died at the scene.
The case went cold until homicide detectives re-examined the case in 2025, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies identified Navarrette and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
The sheriff’s office said its detectives took Navarrette into custody.
Jail records show his charges include murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is ineligible for bail, and his next court date is Aug. 3.
