A person was shot and injured after San Diego police opened fire on a suspected stolen vehicle following a traffic stop in a San Ysidro neighborhood early Wednesday.
The incident was reported at around 7 a.m. near the 1900 block of Del Sur Boulevard. Police pulled a vehicle over fitting the description of a stolen car. Police ordered the two people in the car to get out when an officer fired one round into the windshield, SDPD officer Collin Steinbroner said.
One person was taken to a hospital with a wound to their shoulder while the other person was taken into custody, Steinbroner said. It is unclear who was the driver.
It is also unclear if any officers were injured in the shooting or what prompted the shooting.
Traffic is impacted on Del Sur Boulevard between Caithness Drive and Beyer Boulevard. San Diegans are encouraged to use alternate routes.
