FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A man was taken to the hospital after he fell from a tree in the San Joaquin River bottom near Fresno while reportedly trying to rescue a pet cat on Sunday.
Fresno firefighters were called to the area near Riverside Golf Course around 3:30 p.m.
Crews arrived and found an adult man who had been injured in the fall and could not walk.
The Fresno Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team was requested to assist.
Firefighters carried the man up from the river bottom, and he was then transported to the hospital for treatment.
The man’s family was with him when the accident happened and was able to quickly call for help.
Fire officials said the incident is a reminder for people hiking or taking part in recreation in remote areas to travel with a buddy when possible and make sure someone knows where they are going and when they expect to return.
In an emergency, having someone who can quickly call for help and provide a location can make a significant difference.
