Two people were detained after a fight escalated into a stabbing at a crowded gas station.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the E-Z Trip gas station near Shaw and Crystal avenues around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Fresno police Lt. Alfonso Castillo said.
Responding officers found one man with a “significant stab wound” to his right thigh. Castillo said the gas station was busy, prompting a “chaotic scene.”
Castillo said one person was pulling up to get gas as another was backing up to refuel at the same pump. This led to an argument and fight, during which one of the drivers produced a knife and stabbed the other party.
“This was a fight over a gas pump,” Castillo said.
The man who was stabbed then retrieved a firearm, which he either brandished or pointed at the other driver, Castillo said.
Police detained both people. The man who was stabbed was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
Police are working to determine who the aggressor was and are asking for the public’s help, as there were numerous people at the scene.
Officers temporarily closed off the scene while they canvassed the area.
