BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The former CSU Bakersfield assistant basketball coach, Kevin Mays, has been sentenced to four years after pleading no contest to three felony charges.
The three felony charges were pimping/prostitute, possessing child sexual abuse material, and possessing a controlled substance while armed.

Mays was arrested after a Bakersfield Police Department investigation into allegations that he trafficked a woman across California, Oregon and Washington. Police said the investigation began after an anonymous tip on Aug. 3, 2025, and detectives later connected Mays to the victim through a Washington state traffic stop involving a rental car registered in his name, online advertisements, and evidence that she was staying in a Sacramento hotel room booked under his name. Police said with help from the Sacramento Police Department’s Human Trafficking Unit, detectives contacted the woman, who allegedly identified Mays as her trafficker.
Police took Mays into custody on Sept. 4, 2025, after serving search warrants on his vehicle and apartment near CSUB.
At the time, Mays was booked on multiple charges, including human trafficking, pimping and pandering, weapons violations and drug offenses. Additional charges for possession of child pornography were later added.

Earlier this month, Mays pleaded no contest in court to three felony charges: pimping/prostitute, possessing child sexual abuse material, and possessing a controlled substance while armed.
