Officers from the Long Beach Township Police Department and additional local emergency services personnel responded to Tract 1071 and Long Beach Boulevard in North Beach the evening of Sunday, July 26, after receiving reports of a two-vehicle crash involving entrapment.
“Further investigation revealed that a 2012 black Ford Fusion was traveling south on Long Beach Boulevard when the driver experienced a medical episode,” Lt. Patrick Mazzella of the LBTPD explained. “As a result, the Fusion crossed the center grass median onto the northbound side of Long Beach Boulevard, striking a 2007 white Honda Fit, before impacting a fence and tree.”
According to Mazzella, the driver of the Fusion and a juvenile passenger in that car sustained serious injuries; they were both extricated from the vehicle and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune by Medevac helicopter. The driver of the Fit was not injured.
No charges were issued to either driver. The incident remains under investigation by the Long Beach Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
Barnegat Light First Aid, which was also on scene at the accident in North Beach, said in a social media post that three Medevacs took off from the field at the LBI Elementary School field on Sunday: two for the individuals involved in the car accident, and one earlier that day after an incident involving a car and an e-bike.
“Please remain alert, be careful and stay safe,” the post stated. “Thank you to all our mutual aid agencies involved in both incidents, from Hackensack paramedics, Long Beach Township and Harvey Cedars police departments, Surf City Fire/EMS, Ship Bottom Fire, Harvey Cedars Fire and towing services.
