Waves of Harmony concert
Pacific Coast Harmony will present a concert, “Waves of Harmony,” featuring four-part a cappella harmony from the Great American Songbook, Broadway theater and film at 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Schulman Auditorium at Carlsbad City Library, 1775 Dove Lane. A highlight of the show will be a special appearance by the San Diego Chorus, an international award-winning treble chorus. Ecologist to give talk at lagoon
Batiquitos Lagoon will host a presentation, “Fleeting Water, Hidden Worlds” at 10 a.m. Aug. 8. Survivor Tree Ceremony
The San Diego Botanic Garden will host the annual Survivor Tree Ceremony at 4 p.m. Aug. 6 honoring “resilience through a living legacy that connects the Garden to a global story of peace.” The event celebrates a ginkgo tree that is descended from a mother tree which survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima more than 80 years ago. D’Vine Path will put on its eighth annual soiree, themed “Garden Party,” from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 29, to raise money for the nonprofit’s programs to help neurodivergent participants. Top breakers compete at championship

Contestants compete one-on-one in elimination battles for the national championship title and a spot at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Toronto. Locally-based nonprofit Cura Smiles provides free dental services by primarily volunteer dentists to community members in need who would not otherwise have dental care. SAN DIEGO COUNTY: Foundation gives $276,000 for community wildfire prevention and preparedness…
The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation gave grants totaling $276,000 to 30 Fire Safe Councils along with East County Magazine for wildfire prevention and preparedness, including to provide community education to help community members make their neighborhoods safer. San Diego’s 50 Fire Safe Councils are community-led, volunteer-based groups that work to protect homes and communities from wildfires. The councils support their communities through activities ranging from fire-hardening homes and removing flammable plantings to hosting vegetation and chipping events, installing reflective address signs and educating neighbors in emergency preparedness. Mural unveiling
Local artist David Ybarra will unveil a 7-by-30-foot mural honoring the “people, places and history that shaped San Diego” at a free, public ribbon cutting ceremony from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at Lantern Crest senior living community in Santee. The mural features historical events and landmarks ranging from the USS Midway, San Diego-Coronado Bridge and Belmont Park to local missions. The mural also honors the legacy of the late Harold K. Brown, an American civil rights leader and former resident of Lantern Crest senior living. There will be light bites, refreshments and live jazz music along with a display of additional artwork created by Ybarra.

Summergrass San Diego, a three-day celebration of bluegrass music, is from Aug. 14-16 at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, 2040 N. Santa Fe Ave. The 23rd annual festival features nationally and regionally recognized bluegrass bands, ranging from John Moore and Friends and John Jorgenson to Special Consensus and Po’ Ramblin Boys.
