BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — When employed as an assistant basketball coach at Cal State Bakersfield, Kevin Mays likely was expected to serve as a mentor and role model to the young men on the team.
Given his current circumstances, he’s failed miserably.
Mays on Thursday was sentenced to four years in prison and lifetime sex offender registration after pleading no contest to pimping, possession of child pornography and drug possession while armed.

Mays, 33, received the terms that were agreed upon in early July, when the remaining charges against him were dismissed.

Mays was arrested last year after Bakersfield police received an anonymous tip. His employment with CSUB ended weeks later.

Authorities allege he collected money from a sex worker, reposted her sex ads and encouraged her to get “dates.” The woman told investigators she sent him her earnings. She called him her boyfriend.
An examination of the contents of Mays’ cellphone during the investigation revealed multiple files containing child pornography, and guns and drugs were found in his vehicle and home, according to court documents and testimony at a preliminary hearing.
