Grammy Award winner Jill Scott is bringing her “To Whom This May Concern” tour to Oakland’s Paramount Theatre, performing hits from her sixth studio album, released in February, for local fans. True to Scott’s style, the album blends elements of R&B, jazz, funk and spoken-word poetry, featuring guest appearances from artists such as Tierra Whack, JID and Oakland’s own Too Short.
The Philadelphia native broke onto the scene with her debut album – “Who Is Jill Scott?” – in 2000, quickly drawing critical acclaim for her intimate verses and conversational tone.
Scott has since expanded her reach into the world of literature, with her 2005 poetry book “The Moments, the Minutes, the Hours,” and into Hollywood, most notably through her role in Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” films.
Now with her focus returned to music, she’s set to bring her current “To Whom This May Concern” tour to the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.
