FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A proposal to create a citizen advisory commission to try and redraw Fresno City Council district boundaries failed Thursday after a divided City Council vote.

The proposal, introduced by Council President Nelson Esparza, would have asked voters in November whether to create the commission before the city’s next redistricting process after the 2030 Census.

Instead, the measure failed 4-3 after many councilmembers argued the commission should have more authority over the process.

Councilmembers Miguel Arias, Nick Richardson, Annalisa Perea and Brandon Vang voted against itl. Council President Esparza, Council Vice President Tyler Maxwell and Councilmember Mike Karbassi voted in favor.
