Authorities Thursday sought the public’s help in identifying a suspect who, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, has been using other people’s personal identification information to rent apartments across Los Angeles while using counterfeit checks.

The suspect would fill out rental applications with other people’s personal information then provide counterfeit cashier’s checks to landlords and property management companies.

In September 2025, the same suspect tried the same tactics in the Hollywood and Larchmont areas, the LAPD said.

In another incident, the man, who is described to have dreadlocks and a beard or goatee, filled out an application online and receive the keys to an apartment after giving the landlord a bad cashier’s check. When the landlord, realizing he got a counterfeit check, went back to the property, he found strangers living in his apartment, according to LAPD Detective Juan Campos.

Victims told the LAPD that the suspect identified himself as Igor.

Investigators released the suspect’s photo as they believe they may be additional victims, especially rental and property management companies or owners.

Victims or anyone with information about the suspect was urged to contact the LAPD at (213) 486-5995.
