San Franciscans react to Nancy Pelosi retirement announcement
In a city that elected her over and over again, the comments were mostly positive. However, she was met with some criticism as well.
REPUTATION. I THOUGHT SHE WAS TERRIBLE. WELL, PELOSI WILL HAVE REPRESENTED THE PEOPLE OF SAN FRANCISCO FOR 40 YEARS WHEN SHE RETIRES AFTER HER CURRENT TERM IN 2027. KCRA 3’S SARAH MCGREW HEADED OUT IN THE CITY TO SPEAK WITH CONGRESSWOMAN PELOSI’S CONSTITUENTS AND VISITORS TO HEAR THEIR REACTIONS TO HER BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. OVER 20 TERMS. NANCY PELOSI LEFT HER MARK ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND HERE IN SAN FRANCISCO, LIKE NANCY PELOSI, FEDERAL BUILDING AND NANCY PELOSI DRIVE HERE IN GOLDEN GATE PARK. SO WE ASKED PEOPLE OUT IN THE CITY TODAY WHAT THEY THOUGHT ABOUT HER CAREER. IT’S LIKE ASKING WHO YOUR FAVORITE CHILD IS. IT’S LIKE SHE’S DONE SO MANY THINGS THAT I CAN’T EVEN FOCUS ON ONE THING. WHAT DO YOU THINK NANCY PELOSI’S IMPACT WAS? ACCOMPLISHMENTS OUT THE WAZOO, SO TO SPEAK. IF SHE CAN DO A LITTLE MORE, IT’D BE GREAT. YOU KNOW, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LOVE IT BECAUSE SHE’S FOR ME. SHE’S A GREAT, GREAT, GREAT PERSON. OH, I THINK HER IMPACT WAS TERRIBLE. WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY. SO I’M GLAD SHE’S GONE. JUST EVERYTHING THAT SHE’S DONE HAS A RIPPLE EFFECT FROM, YOU KNOW, THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT TO GAY MARRIAGE TO JUST EVEN A LOCAL. YOU KNOW, SHE’S FIERCELY PROTECTIVE OF SAN FRANCISCO. I VOTED FOR HER THE FIRST TIME THAT SHE CAME UP FOR ELECTION. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT HER RETIREMENT. I’M VERY SAD ABOUT IT. I’M SAD ABOUT THE WAY SHE’S BEEN TREATED THE LAST FEW YEARS. I THINK SHE’S AN INCREDIBLE HUMAN BEING. NANCY PELOSI WAS THE FIRST FEMALE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, AND THAT IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ALL TIME. AND SHE BROKE SO MANY RECORDS. I MEAN, TO BE THE ONLY WOMAN SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE TO REPRESENT SAN FRANCISCO FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS. DO YOU REMEMBER THAT FIRST ELECTION FOR HER BACK IN 87? YEAH. PROBABLY NOT. I WAS WORKING REAL HARD. YOU KNOW, MOST RECENTLY. I LOVE THE SHIFT TO CALIFORNIA NATIVE POLLINATOR GARDENS, PARTICULARLY OVER AT TUNNEL TOPS. VERY PROUD TO HAVE HER AS MY REPRESENTATIVE IN THE HOUSE. THAT SAID, YOU KNOW, I IT WAS VERY MUCH UP TO HER TO DECIDE WHEN SHE WANTED TO GO IN A GOOD TIME FOR HERSELF. AND I’M GLAD SHE’S MADE THE DECISION SHE HAS. REPORTING I
