FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Drivers on one of Fresno’s busiest roads will soon see smoother pavement and safety upgrades.

The Fresno City Council has approved a $1.64 million construction contract for roadway improvements on Shaw Avenue between Fruit Avenue and just east of Palm Avenue.

The project will repave about 0.7 miles of roadway in both directions and include ADA-compliant curb ramps, updated signs, and new striping.

Construction is expected to begin this fall and, if everything stays on schedule, be completed before Thanksgiving.

The project is funded through the federal Surface Transportation Block Grant program, with matching funds provided by California’s SB-1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account.
