Get ready for some major 3-on-3 basketball action, South Bay hoops fans, because Slam Jose is coming to San Jose.
The tournament, which is being presented in conjunction with the Hoop It Up 3×3 basketball organization, is set to take place Sept. 26-27 in the plaza area that was once known as Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose. (That plaza is the process of being renamed.)
Registration for the event is now open at slamjose.com. So, dust off the Chucks, call up your two best (or tallest) pals, and get ready to ball with the top 3-on-3 squads in the area.
And it’s not just about bragging rights.
More than $20,000 in cash prizes will be handed out to the top teams.
Divisions span pro-am, adult men’s and women’s (with ages 40+, 31+ as well as six-foot-and-under brackets), a wheelchair division and youth boys and girls from 18 and under to 10 and under
The pro-am divisions (ages 18 and up) include men, women and wheelchair. There will be first place prizes of $5,000 and second place prizes of $2,500 handed out in each of the pro-am divisions. (Note: Minimum of 10 team pool needed to qualify for maximum prize money.)
“It’s basketball as block party — built to fuel local youth sports, light up downtown and give back to community organizations across the Bay” according to the information provided on the event’s evite page.
Those interested in competing in the event can register their teams (3-5 players ) for $250. For that price, teams are guaranteed at least four games — and could get as many as six. The deadline to register is Sept. 23.
The even is free to attend as fan/spectator, but people are asked to RSVP in advance via the website above. Beyond the basketball, there will also be many vendors, food and drink options and music.
It runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27. It also includes a free-throw contest.
