BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Third Heatwave of the season is well underway across Kern County, USA this weekend. According to Bakersfield weather lore we wait for those 3-days-in-a-row of 100 degrees or more at Meadows Field. Wednesday marked the return of triple digits to Bakersfield and this heat wave looks to be a long one.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of Kern County, this time including the South Valley the Kern River Valley and also the mountain communities. Our desert towns are under an Extreme Heat Warning.
We’re expecting temperatures in excess of 100 degrees for just about all lower elevations, with the mountains reaching into the 90s this weekend. The good news is that at least this will be a “dry heat”.
As always, it’s a very good idea to practice hot weather safety. Much of it boils down to trying to minimize your time in the heat, and making sure you stay hydrated.
