Alumni Theater Company overcomes venue change to stage musical in Oakland
PITTSBURGH —
The show must go on—that’s what Alumni Theater Company is saying after an unexpected setback almost halted their staging of the musical “Once on This Island” this weekend.
The production had to find a new venue after staffing changes ended its original partnership with Pittsburgh Public Theater.
The company said support from the local arts community kept the production on track.
“The arts are alive in our city, and it’s alive by young people. Our young black artists are killing it on stage; they’re finding purpose, they’re finding motivation, they’re developing camaraderie, teamwork, and self-confidence. And really just exploring who they are as people and as artists,” Executive Director of Alumni Theater Company Bridgette Perdue told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 on Friday.
The performances will take place at the Charity Randall Theatre in North Oakland.
