On Saturday at 1:03 p.m. a beach hazards statement was issued by the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA in effect until 8 p.m. The statement is for Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles.
“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf,” can be anticipated according to the NWS. “Many, strong rip currents are reported from south facing beaches. Use extra caution and swim near a lifeguard.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” says the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
This statement is in effect until 8 p.m.
