San Diego enters Sunday at 57-54 after winning seven of eight and taking two consecutive games from San Francisco. The Padres followed Friday’s 7-0 victory with Saturday’s 6-5 walk-off, despite blowing a late three-run advantage. Jake Cronenworth delivered the winning single after Xander Bogaerts opened the ninth with a double. San Francisco sits 47-64, including 21-37 away from home, after losing consecutive games. The Giants have scored 466 runs and allowed 517, producing a -51 differential. San Diego owns only a -8 differential, although its 31-25 home record provides a meaningful separation. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Landen Roupp’s 4.12 ERA understates his quality across 113 2/3 innings. He owns a 3.48 xERA, .290 xwOBA, .329 xSLG, 86.3 mph exit velocity, and 29.4% hard-hit rate. Roupp has permitted only 13 barrels, producing a 4.2% barrel rate and eight homers allowed. His 24% strikeout rate supplies upside, while a 10.1% walk rate creates his clearest route toward trouble. Roupp already blanked San Diego across six innings this season, allowing two hits with seven strikeouts. Kyle Hart counters with a 4.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 36 strikeouts, 13 walks, and four homers across 40 2/3 innings.
Hart’s traditional line conceals excellent contact suppression. Opponents have produced an 86.9 mph exit velocity, 28.7% hard-hit rate, 7% barrel rate, and .291 xwOBA. San Francisco owns a .253 average and .415 slugging percentage, yet its .310 OBP ranks near baseball’s bottom third. Rafael Devers remains the lineup’s primary damage source, with Bryce Eldridge, Heliot Ramos, and Willy Adames providing secondary power. Luis Arraez returns atop the order after Saturday’s precautionary absence. San Diego’s offense owns a weaker .235 average and .384 slugging percentage, although Cronenworth, Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill, and Luis Campusano have generated better recent contact.
Roupp gives San Francisco a legitimate starting-pitching advantage, especially if Hart again works a limited assignment. Hart has averaged only 2 2/3 innings across his last five appearances. San Diego can cover that abbreviated workload with baseball’s second-ranked bullpen, which owns a 3.37 ERA across 443 1/3 innings. Mason Miller carries a 0.76 ERA and 49.2% strikeout rate, despite Saturday’s rare blown save. Bradgley Rodriguez owns a 2.28 ERA, while Adrian Morejon has posted a 3.07 ERA and 27.8% strikeouts. San Francisco’s bullpen owns a 4.31 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and considerably less dependable late-inning depth.
Giants vs. Padres pick, best bet
Petco Park should contain both offenses despite temperatures approaching 80 degrees and a nine mph outward wind. Roupp’s ground-ball shape and elite barrel suppression reduce the wind’s relevance. Hart’s 9.1-degree average launch angle allowed similarly prevents consistent airborne damage. The series has produced five, seven, and 11 combined runs, with two games staying below eight. San Diego used Morejon, Jeremiah Estrada, Wandy Peralta, and Miller on Saturday. Miller threw 32 pitches, creating a reasonable chance he receives Sunday off. The remaining Padres bullpen still owns enough depth to protect Hart’s abbreviated workload.
The under offers a cleaner position than either moneyline. San Diego deserves favoritism through bullpen superiority, home field, and healthier recent form. Roupp’s advanced profile prevents laying -130 comfortably against him. San Francisco’s +108 price lacks sufficient protection against its inferior bullpen and damaged roster. Eight preserves a valuable push if both offenses reach four runs. Roupp and Hart have combined to allow a .290 expected wOBA, 29.1% hard contact, and 4.9% barrels. Those contact figures belong in a lower total, even with Sunday’s favorable hitting weather.
Best bet: Under 8 (-107), playable through -115
Projected score: Padres 4, Giants 3
Best bet: Giants vs. Padres u8.0 total runs scored (-105)
