(FOX40.COM) — A robbery suspect is in the hospital after being shot by a deputy, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the shooting Friday morning. The incident occurred near Barracuda Way and Grayling Way in the area of La Riviera, a neighborhood near the Glenbrook Shopping Center east of Watt Avenue.
The incident began at about 9 a.m. when a construction worker who had just finished his shift discovered someone had broken into his vehicle.

The suspect, holding the victim’s wallet and cellphone, pulled a knife on the worker, officials said.
Deputies received another call at about 10:20 a.m. for another burglary in progress, this time in the 2600 block of Mackinaw Way. The caller reported the suspect had broken into his home and stolen the homeowner’s handgun, threatening him.
A short time later, deputies eventually located the suspect, who was riding a bicycle, on Grayling Way.
The suspect ditched the bike — which was also stolen — and “raised up the firearm toward the deputies,” which led the deputies to shoot him.
One neighbor told FOX40 they heard two gunshots. Another caught part of the interaction on home security camera.
Deputies described the suspect as a transient who did not know the victims. The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to a hospital where his condition is unknown.
No deputies were injured, and the investigation is ongoing.
