Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Maes.

Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey in a small mountain town in Colorado, where I learned how to play and sing piano. When I was in middle school, some friends and I decided to form a band called “Red Bandana.” Through the band I developed a passion for songwriting and performing. We toured the state playing at state fairs, schools, and festivals as a band. My love of music continued in high school, where I honed my craft and developed my own musical identity. I continued my love of music by earning a degree at Berklee College of Music, where I learned production, engineering, and vocal performance.

After college, I moved to Los Angeles and have been developing my career as a solo artist for the past 3 years.

My upcoming album MAPS is a love letter to all the places that have shaped who I am as an artist: small mountain town, music college, and now LA. My journey is far from over, and I can’t wait to continue writing and developing my musical universe!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The artist road is never smooth. We are constantly paving our own path and taking the road less traveled. From the constant “no’s” and uncertainty in the future, it can be really difficult to maintain unwavering determination.

I find it really overwhelming to handle all the difficulties of navigating an artist career on your own, so I try to surround myself with people who are always willing to support and uplift my creative ideas. You can’t do everything on your own — it’s important to have a community of friends and family that are able to encourage you along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a soul/rock musician blending classic rock & soul elements with modern arrangements. You can find me performing across Los Angeles and Southern California with my band or as a solo artist. Currently, I am in the process of creating and producing my upcoming album “Maps” which will showcase my signature soul/rock sound. You can stream the first two featured singles “Corner Store” and “Continental” on all platforms and watch their music videos on YouTube!

In addition to performing and creating my own music, I am also a producer for many different artists in Los Angeles. I’ve been lucky to produce for many independent artists like Cody Volk, Megan Beattie, and Emilio Gonzalez. You can find my production work on my website. https://www.alexmaes.com/production

What does success mean to you?
Success can mean many different things for me. Ultimately, I love creating art. If I am able to fulfill a creative idea and project then I consider it a success.
