A Long Beach woman was arrested Saturday, Aug. 1, on suspicion of killing another woman, authorities said.
The suspect was identified as Estela Jaramillo Rodriguez, 69, police said. She was booked into jail on suspicion of murder and was being held on $2 million bail.
Long Beach police responded to a report of an assault just after 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at a residential care facility in the 2600 block of Grand Avenue, between Willow Street and the 405 Freeway, the department said in a press release. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman unresponsive. Long Beach firefighters attempted to help the victim, but she died at the scene.
Rodriguez was arrested near the scene, police said.
The victim’s identity was being withheld until her relatives are notified, police said. She was believed to be in her 70s.
Rodriguez was accused of physically assaulting the victim, police said, but further details were not available.
The case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing consideration.
