August deadline approaches for SUN Bucks, a California kids summer food program
California’s summer EBT program known as SUN Bucks has a key application deadline approaching.
The summer food program for kids offers families $120 per eligible child in grocery benefits to help with meals when schools are out of session.
Most students who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals are automatically enrolled, but some families need to apply by the Aug.31 deadline.
Families who did not receive a SUN Bucks card in the mail can check their child’s eligibility here.
Parents and guardians can ask their child’s school for a Universal Benefits Application and return it to the school by Aug. 31. People can also call the SUN Bucks hotline with questions at 877-328-9677 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
The benefits must be used within 122 days after they are issued.
“SUN Bucks helps connect kids with important nutrition, so they can return to school happy, healthy, and ready to learn,” said Kathy Saile, director of No Kid Hungry California, in a statement. “We’re thankful for the many state and community partners who have worked hard to sustain and promote SUN Bucks this summer. It is important that families know about this opportunity and apply by August 31st.”
