Der Biergarten to hold grand opening Friday for Old Sacramento waterfront location

Daniel MachtSACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Old Sacramento is getting a new beer garden.

The owners of Midtown Sacramento’s Der Biergarten will hold a grand opening event on Friday to celebrate their new location at the historic Steamer’s Building on 1108 Front Street.

The Ber Biergarten Waterfront business features a 1,550-square-foot outdoor seating area with communal tables along the boardwalk. The building also has 750 square feet of indoor space, according to the city.

“We wanted to bring the same communal outdoor atmosphere people enjoy at our Midtown location to the waterfront,” owner Sean Deerfield said in a statement. “Watching the riverboats pass by and hearing the sea lions makes it a distinct Sacramento experience.”

The original Der Biergarten, located at 2332 K Street, was founded in 2014. Sean, Erika and Jarret Deerfield also own Sean Finnegan’s Pub in Old Sacramento.

The new beer garden in Old Sacramento will serve German pretzels, sausages and more small plates, along with imported German and Belgian beer and Northern California craft beer.

Doors open for Friday’s grand opening at 5 p.m. The first 100 guests will get a free pretzel.
