Man, 55, dies after swimming incident on Martha’s Vineyard, prompting beach closures
WEST TISBURY, Mass. —
A 55-year-old man died during a swimming incident on Martha’s Vineyard, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office announced.
On Friday, West Tisbury police responded to a swimming incident at Long Point, where a male swimmer was pulled from the water after they struggled to return to shore, police said.
The person, later identified as Kevin Foster, 55, of Cambridge, was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, where he later died.
All Long Point Wildlife Refuge Beaches on Martha’s Vineyard were closed Sunday after the incident.
All reservations will be refunded and the beaches are expected to be opened on Monday, The Trustees at Martha’s Vineyard announced. The beaches were also closed on Saturday due to the incident.
