Re “More Gloria budget theater” (Aug. 2): The 13 public restrooms in question can be funded by closing a proportional number of restrooms in City Hall and city administration buildings for the equivalent savings of $546,000. Start by closing the dedicated restrooms for Mayor Todd Gloria, City Council members and their staff. Public restrooms require much more maintenance than the personal restrooms for the mayor and council, as well as employees’ restrooms in city administration buildings. Are the mayor and council members willing to forgo their perk of dedicated restrooms to avoid a public health issue in the parks?
We are not a Third World country where people have to relieve themselves “au naturel” in a public park. We have seen this play out on the streets with homelessness. Show us that preventing a public health crisis is better than, literally, cleaning it up afterwards.
