When Steve Pike, Eli Deitz, Jordan Emmert and Ryan Fitzgibbon got together and began creating their eclectic brand of post-hardcore, this collection of Austin-based music veterans turned a casual jam session in January 2022 into magic in a bottle. Pike specifically aspired to form a band like Porcelain after his previous band Exhalants had coasted to a stop.
“I had the intention [to start Porcelain] when I told everybody I was starting to write new riffs that sounded different than my previous bands and, and I was just like, yeah, I just wanna do something that kind of sounds like Sonic Youth, Unwound, Blonde Redhead and Drive Like Jehu,” Pike said. “Everyone brought their own voice and their own personality into these songs, and it just felt like everything was clicking.”
Following several single releases as well as the release of its 2024 self-titled album, Porcelain continues to define the Austin post-hardcore music scene with the upcoming release of “Today’s Minor Victories” on Oct. 23, with the current year of our lord also seeing a single release from the album called “Apocalypse,” as well as a West Coast tour that includes a stop-over at Cafe Colonial in Sacramento on Aug. 11.
One of the band’s first releases, “C.O.A.,” includes many elements of hardcore from before the turn of the 21st century, where the heavy reverb and dynamic shifts merge the song’s sound with more modern post-hardcore.
