Rachyl Jones
The San Francisco Standard has hired Rachyl Jones as a technology reporter, expanding its coverage of the Bay Area’s artificial intelligence and technology sectors.
Editor in Chief Kevin Delaney announced that Jones will join the newsroom on Aug. 17 and report from the publication’s San Francisco office as part of its technology team. She will report to Technology Editor Heather Kelly.
Jones joins The Standard from Semafor, where she built a reputation covering artificial intelligence companies and broader technology trends. Her reporting has focused on enterprise stories and investigative coverage, including extensive sourcing within technology companies to uncover developments across the rapidly evolving AI industry.
Before joining Semafor, Jones reported for Fortune and the Observer. Her work has included investigative reporting on emerging technologies, including a Fortune investigation into Chinese autonomous vehicles operating in California that involved interviews with dozens of industry experts.
Jones holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
At The Standard, she will focus on San Francisco’s AI companies, with an emphasis on reporting about the people, products and organizational dynamics shaping one of the world’s largest artificial intelligence hubs. Her coverage will examine how the city’s growing AI sector is influencing both the local economy and the broader technology industry.
Jones is relocating from New York City to San Francisco for the role as The San Francisco Standard continues to expand its newsroom and deepen its reporting on the region’s technology ecosystem.
