Community members and groups across the city joined Long Beach police officers for an evening of games, food, resources and more to celebrate the 43rd annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Long Beach joined more than 17,000 communities across the country also celebrating with special events. National Night Out is an annual campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work, according to a press release.
“National Night Out is a special night for our department to celebrate partnerships, friendships and relationships we share as a community,” Long Beach Police Department Chief Wally Hebeish said in a statement. “It is truly a privilege to be invited into the homes, businesses and places of worship throughout our city to show appreciation for the work the employees of the Long Beach Police Department do on a daily basis.”
This year, there were 10 events across the city, including a free youth and family cultural celebration at Admiral Kidd Park hosted by Centro CHA, Riley’s Red Wagon Book Swap, and a block party on Hellman Street in the Craftsman Village Historic District, among others.
