A man investigators say killed his roommate, buried him in a California backyard, drove his pickup and posed as him was arrested in Oregon’s Mt. Hood National Forest on Sunday, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.
When a deputy on patrol first spoke to Cris Jones, who was camping near Harriet Lake on Thursday, July 30, Jones identified himself as Daniel Joslin.
The deputy checked the vehicle registration and the license plate of the Ford F-150 pickup the man was driving and found it did belong to a Daniel Joslin.
The problem, however, was when the deputy checked further, the sheriff’s office said it was discovered a man named Daniel Joslin, 61, had been reported missing several days before in California.
In fact, the day before, investigators in San Bernardino County, California uncovered the remains of Joslin buried in the backyard of a home in Yucca Valley and suspected Jones in his killing.

Oregon and California investigators worked together and determined that the man at the Oregon campsite was Jones, 60.
On Sunday, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office used an airplane to guide its SWAT team to Jones’ location, and he was taken into custody without incident.
His extradition to California is pending.
