A juvenile has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that severely damaged the second floor of an Oakland residence, authorities said.
Five children and two adults were in the Libby Hill Road home at the time of the fire, which broke out around midnight July 26. No one was injured and the home contained working smoke alarms.
The Office of State Fire Marshal investigated and determined the fire originated from one of the children’s bedrooms and had been intentionally set, Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release Wednesday.
Oakland’s fire department and mutual aid departments from Belgrade, Sidney, Rome, Smithfield and Waterville responded to the fire, which took more than four hours to clear.
The juvenile, who was not identified by authorities, is being held in the Long Creek Youth Development Facility in South Portland.
