Workers at a San Diego Recreational Equipment Inc. store voted against joining the United Food and Commercial Workers after initially opting to unionize.
REI announced in a statement Thursday that workers at the southern California location elected not to join the union in a National Labor Relations Board-supervised rerun election. The workers had voted to join the UFCW in May.
The vote is a blow to the union, which was set to gain about 119 new members after the first vote. That election marked the twelfth and largest REI store to unionize.
