BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield Police say Flock cameras helped lead to the arrest of a 67-year-old man for allegedly hitting and killing a 17-year-old girl on Union Avenue in July.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at around 10:45 p.m., officers were called to the 3600 block of Union Avenue regarding a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian, identified as 17-year-old Love Icelyn Dixon of Bakersfield, down in the roadway suffering severe injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
According to police, the preliminary investigation found that the teen got out of a vehicle that had stopped in the number one lane of northbound Union Avenue when they were struck by the involved vehicle, which was traveling north in the number two lane.
The Bakersfield Police Department said on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, 67-year-old Jeff Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail for felony hit-and-run.
Bakerfield Police said investigators assigned to the Major Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) and Hit and Run investigators conducted an extensive follow-up investigation.
Police said that Flock safety cameras were “invaluable” in assisting in identifying the suspect vehicle. Further investigation identified a possible suspect, and a search warrant was authorized for the vehicle and the suspect’s home.
The vehicle was found with damage consistent with the crash and physical evidence present on the front of the vehicle, according to police.
Ferguson also had an unrelated warrant on a separate case.
