Sacramento’s movie-famous thrift shop, Valley Thrift Town, will close at the end of August following a decision made by its new owners.
Located at 410 El Camino Avenue, the store was previously known simply as Thrift Town and was included in the coming-of-age film “Lady Bird” starring Saoirse Ronan. The movie was primarily shot in Sacramento, the hometown of director Greta Gerwig, and released in 2017.
Thrift Town faced sudden closure after a drop in business during the peak of COVID-19.
At approximately the same time, Thrift Town also closed its El Sobrante location in Contra Costa County and its locations in Carmichael and south Sacramento.
The Sacramento store reopened in 2021 after recent owner Neeko Lalkakos, his family and group of employees purchased it from Norquist Salvage and rebranded it Valley Thrift Town, Lalkakos said.
Following its reopening, he said, the shop saw a resurgence in business.
Lalkakos did not provide the name of the buyer, but said the sale happened in July. He declined to provide a reason behind the decision to sell.
For the rest of the month, most clothing, shoes and bags are 85% off, and jewelry is 50% off, Lalkakos said. All books in stock are selling for one dollar.
Thrift Town is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
