A monthslong joint investigation into a Sinaloa Cartel drug trafficking organization recently led authorities to a methamphetamine production site where $12.5 million worth of the drug was seized.
Los Angeles Port Police said the joint investigation began in January 2026, led by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New York Field Division and the DEA’s Los Angeles High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Group 48, and involved multiple local law enforcement agencies.
Over the course of the next six months, investigators seized 20,000 fentanyl pills and 20 pounds of methamphetamine. A bigger break came when ground surveillance, electronic monitoring and aerial surveillance led investigators to a “clandestine” methamphetamine laboratory in a remote desert area of Los Angeles County.
On July 28, federal and local authorities executed a search warrant at the site and found 1,378 pounds of methamphetamine in both crystal and highly condensed liquid forms. In total, the methamphetamine was valued at approximately $12.5 million. Approximately $80,000 in cash was also seized.
Three Mexican nationals were arrested.
Port police said the major seizure follows other significant operations, including another drug bust in Riverside County and the dismantling of a major theft ring responsible for stealing more than $2 million in Nike merchandise.
“These operations highlight the dedication, expertise, and collaborative strength of our Task Force Officers,” said Los Angeles Port Police Capt. Daniel Cobos. “Their work continues to make a measurable impact on regional safety, drug trafficking suppression, and protection of commercial supply chains.”
