Alcohol was believed to be a factor in a deadly crash early Monday that knocked a road construction worker from a Highway 50 overpass onto Stockton Boulevard.
The worker was on the ongoing Fix 50 project when a driver fatally struck him about 12:30 a.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol officials said.
CHP officials said the driver, a woman, was taken into custody after trying to flee the crash. Arrest information was not immediately available.
The driver had entered a closed Highway 50 lane at Stockton Boulevard, where crews were working. She struck a work vehicle with two people inside before striking the worker and knocking him from the overpass onto Stockton Boulevard, CHP officials said.
The worker was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office had not identified him pending notification of his family.
Eastbound Highway 50 at Stockton Boulevard was closed for hours as the CHP investigated the crash. The roadway later reopened.
