Jackie, the Big Bear bald eagle, dies in Southern California
OJAI, Calif. —
Jackie the bald eagle has died.
The Ojai Raptor Center said the famous eagle died on Monday morning following three weeks of medical care.
“Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit,” the Ojai Raptor Center said in a statement.

The group said its team was “heartbroken” by the development.
Jackie had been rescued and underwent rehabilitation at the center after a fight with other eagles. Her condition worsened, though, and the raptor center said she was anemic.

The Friends of Big Bear Valley said on Facebook that the update of Jackie’s passing brought “great sadness and heavy hearts.”
