Berkeley Law students play a key role in helping the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) assist immigrants. The center’s Immigrant Youth Defender Clinic advocates for youth in their immigration legal matters, including a cross-section of family, probate, and criminal law. Students help develop youth-centered communication skills through consultations and case meetings, build advocacy strategies for youth clients in removal proceedings, and draft arguments to support requests for judicial finding. Students in EBCLC’s Immigrant Community Justice Clinic focus on relief in areas such as asylum, DACA, and family reunification. They advise clients on eligibility for pathways to immigration relief, permanent residency, and citizenship, determine case strategies to support clients in removal proceedings and detention, and participate in community-based legal education and outreach.
