FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A high-speed chase that began with a DUI traffic stop in Fresno ended with a crash in Madera and the arrest of a 20-year-old man on Sunday.
A Fresno County deputy made a traffic stop on a car in the intersection of Shaw and Marks at around 3:30 a.m.
The officer identified the driver as 20-year-old Jordan Garay of Madera and detained him for a DUI evaluation.
Deputies say that Garay fought with the deputy and was able to get back into his car.
Deputies also say that he forced his female passenger back into the car, who was standing outside.
He also rammed into the patrol car and fled the scene.
Deputies initiated a chase after Garay drove recklessly, reaching speeds up to 120 mph.
The pursuit ended nearly 20 minutes later when Garay crashed into a railroad electrical box near Cleveland Avenue and Country Club Drive in Madera.
Deputies say Garay got out and ran, but was eventually captured on the embankment of Highway 99.
The female passenger was not injured.
