San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced Tuesday that her office secured a conviction against 26-year-old Dasan Warsaialem Brown following a jury trial for the sexual assault of a passenger on a city bus.
Brown was convicted of multiple charges, including assault with intent to commit a felony, attempted rape by force or violence or by threat of bodily injury, attempted sexual penetration by a foreign object by force and violence, sexual battery by restraint, simple assault, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, felony false imprisonment and two counts of misdemeanor vandalism.
“I would like to thank the jury for their time and attention to the evidence in this trial,” Jenkins said. “This verdict reinforces our city’s commitment to holding those who commit acts of sexual violence accountable. We are thankful for the victim’s courage to come forward and trust in our office to obtain justice and accountability.”
According to trial testimony and evidence, the attack occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. on April 26, 2025. Brown violently assaulted the victim on the 29 Muni bus near Winston Avenue after all other passengers had disembarked.
Brown attempted to rape and sexually penetrate the victim with a foreign object. During the attack, the victim was strangled, sexually assaulted and sustained injuries that included hair loss.
The bus driver witnessed the assault and immediately called for help. San Francisco State University Police responded to the scene and detained Brown until San Francisco Police arrived and took him into custody.
Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Gooch successfully prosecuted the case, assisted by District Attorney Investigator Shan Johnson, paralegal Andrew Ong and IT support staffer Noaeh Pinaire.
The district attorney’s office issued a special thanks to victim advocates Abigail Cordova and Cindy Pelayo, who worked closely with the victim throughout the case’s pendency.
Prosecutors credited the dedication of investigating officers from the San Francisco State University Police Department and the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Victims Unit and Taraval Station for helping develop a strong case.
“The victim fought hard despite the odds and deserved justice in this case,” Gooch said. “I want to thank the jury for their careful consideration.”
Brown is currently in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 3.
