Special Olympics Northern California hosts Fall Games and Guardian Games at UC Davis this weekend
YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO SUPPORT SPECIAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. IT’S THEIR ANNUAL FALL GAMES AND THE GUARDIAN GAMES, ALL TAKING PLACE ON THE UC DAVIS CAMPUS. AND JOINING US RIGHT NOW THIS MORNING TO TALK MORE ABOUT TOMORROW’S EVENT, MELISSA KELLY, SHE’S A SENIOR DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. SO GUARDIAN GAMES IS A COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING EVENT WHERE COMMUNITY LEADERS, SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES AND LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL TEAM UP TO ROTATE THROUGH ABOUT NINE DIFFERENT GAME STATIONS COMPETING FOR FUN, BRAGGING RIGHTS, CAMARADERIE, INCLUSION, ALL THE GOOD STUFF. AND THAT’S A BIG FUNDRAISER FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS. CORRECT? IT IS. YES. TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE GAMES. SO FALL GAMES IS THE ANNUAL SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP FOR ALL OF OUR SPECIAL OLYMPICS. NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ATHLETES. IT CULMINATES AFTER MANY MONTHS OF THEM TRAINING AND PRACTICING AND COMPETING AND COMING TOGETHER FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE. VERY NICE. AND HERE’S THE THING, TOO WITH THE GUARDIAN GAMES. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE WHERE IT’S SORT OF A I GOT TO IMAGINE A LITTLE BIT OF A CELEBRATION, ALMOST LIKE A THANK YOU AS WELL TO FOLKS WHO COME OUT AND SUPPORT, YOU KNOW, AS, AS BEST AS THEY CAN. IT IS.
