Dog dies in East Sacramento house fire
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A house fire in East Sacramento left a dog dead Tuesday, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.
The fire happened in the 3730 block of Erlewine Circle before 6 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the house. No residents were home, but two dogs were inside, Sacramento Fire Department Battalion Chief Doug Ross said.
“They had to force entry,” Ross said. “And once they went inside, they were able to find a fire in the kitchen, and they were able to find some animals and get them out of the house.”
Photos shared with KCRA showed firefighters tending to one of the dogs in the front yard. Neighbor Wayne Ramos said he watched a firefighter perform chest compressions in an effort to revive the animal.
“He spent the whole time pumping his chest, trying to get him to recover,” Ramos said. “So I really hand it to the Sacramento Fire Department. They did an excellent job, at least trying to save the dog.”
Despite firefighters’ efforts, the dog died. The other dog survived.
Ramos, who said he regularly walks his dogs, returned to the home to learn whether the animal had recovered.
The other dog was unharmed and rescued, the fire department said.
No people were injured in the fire.
Arson investigators were seen investigating the cause of the fire.
